For the past three years, I have been contracting for Romascope on an as-needed basis to help create content for their client, Age of Learning. I am primarily tasked with the facial animation and compositing work for Robi, the main character and mascot for their ‘My Reading Academy’ series. Alongside my facial animation work, I have also been hired to work on the motion graphics content within the same series, as well as, other adjacent educational projects. In the past, I have also been contacted to give input and expertise on other 3D projects.

These videos are used as guided lessons within the Age of Learning app that help children of all ages with their language and mathematic skills.

Age of Learning

My Reading Academy Español

I have worked on over 70 different ‘My Reading Academy’ videos in Spanish, giving life to Robi the little robot!

I work within After Effects to animate Robi’s facial expressions to match his words and body language. Then, I work with the editors on the team to assure that Robi is properly synced to their edits before I begin compositing his face onto his CGI body.

My Reading Academy English

Along with Age of Learning’s Spanish educational videos, I have worked on a large amount of their English videos as well.

In this lesson, I animated and composited Nano’s (English Robi) facial expressions, along with animating all of the graphics on the digital screen up until the end of section one (ends at 1:38).

Originally, I animated the second half of this lesson’s digital screen as well, which included two animated dachshunds, but the script was changed last minute and it was cut.

I’ve included my original animations with the rough voice over here for your viewing pleasure.

Odds and Ends

While working for Age of Learning with Romascope, I’ve had the opportunity to use a variety of different skillsets!

On the left, you can see a CGI background I fully modeled and textured. It was originally made to be used as an updated background for one of their shows, but was scrapped in favor of keeping their old 2D backdrops.

Our spinning friend here is a smaller assignment I was tasked with, but one that I enjoyed so I felt the need to showcase her.

The lead motion designer was working on animating a children’s book page and requested that I mimic the original artist’s character from different angles so that she could spin.

Unfortunately the final video is lost to time, but I luckily have this rough animation to showcase her fantastic spinning technique.
