Coriander was made over a nine month period where I worked on every aspect of the animation and conceptualization process solo. I 3D modeled, rigged, and animated everything in Autodesk Maya and digitally illustrated the backgrounds. I composited and edited the shots together in Adobe After Effects, as well as adding the sounds effects and music.

Compositing Breakdown
Here you can watch a short video of the layers that make the Coriander trailer what it is!
This animation is a proof of concept for a world that I've been working on building over the past seven years. It follows, Arlo, a curious human boy who travels around in a Caravan with his old and grouchy grandpa, who one day stumbles upon a fantastical forest with light bulbs that grow from the ends of tree branches.
The Caravan
This caravan was the first asset I modeled and textured, unfortunately It was scrapped due to time constraints and can be seen in the far background of the animation. Even though it didn’t make the cut this time, I still think it deserves a spot to be showcased.
Arlo inevitably runs into Coriander, a tall plucky fellow with a ball of yarn for a head. The boys soon discover the abundance of mystery that the forest has to offer.
So our human hero has to decide. Will he go back to his grandpa and life of constant movement, or follow his new friend, Coriander, and travel deep into the forest?
Here you can watch a short semi-animated peak into the darker world of Coriander featuring Mr. Teapot and his shop.
Mr. Teapot, Mr. Rock, the bookshelf, and desk are 3D modeled. The rest of the environment is a 2D digital painting.
